Stagecraft Theatre presents Polly Teale's groundbreaking adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel "Jane Eyre" . . . a passionate physical and psychological drama.
Jane's journey from neglected and abused orphan to governess in the employment of the dark and brooding Mr Rochester is one of the greatest literary love stories and remains so in this production, but - in a brilliant stroke of dramatic licence - Teale has made Bertha (the mad woman kept in the attic) an extension of Janes' imagination.
All the anger, frustration, hope , joy and sexuality that Jane must repress, Bertha expresses and revels in . . .
Originally produced by the Shared Experience Theatre Company, it has had two very successful West End runs and been performed around the world. Director , Paul Kay (whose previous productions include "Pack of Girls","Dancing at Lughnasa" and "Popcorn") was immediately intrigued by this interpretation and is excited to bring this new version to Wellington audiences.
