Once Were Samoans is about falling in love, arranged marriage, race relations, national pride, national embarrassment, and national who-gives-a . . . oh, and who owns the land.
The Tuffi family are getting ready to go to a family reunion. They are: four unambitious sons; two obedient daughters who keep house and wait for marriage; and their commandant of a mother, who's brought them up on her own because their good-for-nothing father ‘couldn't handle the jandal’. The big fuss begins when a radical Maori golfer plots to steal one of her daughters.
They sold out at the Auckland Comedy Festival and now they hit Hamilton with jandal in hand . . . Bigger, Better, and Blacker!
Written by Vela Manusute and directed by Anapela Polataivao.
This event is part of the 2008 FUEL Festival.
