Festival of Rhythm, Dance and Carnival

Jambalaya 2008 is stepping up to become one of the most eclectic and captivating events on the summer festival calendar.

This year the festival features a new main stage delivering 10 hours of live music each day with a mix of international and New Zealand bands, the best from around the world in Latin Hip hop through to Gypsy and Carnival Samba.

Acts include: Monobloco - Direct from Brazil, Blue King Brown, Batucada Sound Machine, Doch Gypsy Band, Katchafire, Mamaku Project, Ladi6 Son Veneno, Brazil Beat Sound System, Suspend Circus, Watussi and many more. DJs include Bobbie Brazuka, Cian, Cesar and Roger Perry.

The festival site has shade trees, a walk down to fresh water swimming in the lake and gorgeous international food so people can enjoy the summer as well as the gigs.
Running simultaneously with the main stage is a full progamme of dance, music and circus workshops, dance shows, theatre and circus cabaret.

A three-day festival pass gives access in to all the concerts, dance and circus shows, percussion, dance and circus workshops, all night dance parties, kids zone and international market stalls. Kids under 13 free.

My 26th birthday is on the 3rd January and participating at the Jambalaya festival would just be THE PERFECT PRESENT. Normally, I have to celebrate my birthday in the dull, cold European winter. What could be better than dancing to fantastic Latin music under the New Zealand summer sun instead? NOTHING!

There are too many reasons why winning a ticket to this thing would be the ultimate. Latin beats, Brazilian Dance, Batacuda Sound Machine. For three hours at the Cuba Carnival earlier this year I danced with the Batacuda Sound Machine. It was amazing. The tempo just kept on building and building until the crowd where in a state of euphoria. Now thats pretty impressive. There's something about Brazilian life and culture - their desire, their passion, their beleif that life should be lived without boundaries. That our friends and our family are more important than what we own or how much money we have. Their is something about their way of life that inspires - the Brazilian culture. How much would I love to be a part of the Jambalaya Festival. I can't tell you how much.

All you have to do to enter the competition for tickets is tell us why you should get them.
Creativity and originality get our attention. There may be a few Sam Hunt's out there after all fifi laroo. Nicole, are you sure you want to unleash your Nana on all those unsuspecting ‘luscious’ South American ‘hunks’? Sounds like they may not be able to handle her :)

There are loads of reasons for winning these tickets. I simply love brazilian styled music and even the new releases, properly tuned by dj work - it's simply the best music for parties. Furthermore, I'm foreign and I leave new zealand sometime in mid january, so it would be perfect chance fot a farewell culture experience for a lifetime.

If I can get these tickets I’m taking my 86 year old Nana! To this day she is STILL talking about how she wishes she could’ve sambaed amongst some ‘luscious’ South American ‘hunks’ (her words not mine!). Therefore a South American-style Carnival in her hometown of Rotorua will definitely be the closest she’ll ever get to fulfill this die-hard wish of hers!
