With Shapeshifter, Ladi6, Tiki, Connan and the Mockasins, Pig Out, The Mixtape Connection with Ed Muzik,
MC Sticky Fingaz and the $mix Crew.

Reclaiming the central city for an afternoon of live music excellence, a collection of this country’s top live performers are set to deliver their best, freshest and most loved tunes in the serene surrounds of North Hagley Park. This is an afternoon that promises to make Sounday your new favourite day of the year.
Featuring….

Shapeshifter
Shapeshifter are unquestionably awesome. Just ask someone who was part of the capacity crowd at the Town Hall, in September 2006 when they appeared with the Christchurch Symphony, or talk to any one of the 12,000 people who let it all go at Cheap as Chips 2007. Shapeshifter are returning to their home town to deliver their signature live blend of Drum & Bass, Electro, Jazz and Soul on the back of a hugely successful international tour. Sounday will be the ultimate homecoming. Chur chur for Shapeshifter at home in Hagley Park.

Ladi6
Also with her roots in Christchurch, Ladi6 (Karoline Tamati) is the soulful voice behind the hit ‘When I return’ (Shapeshifter). One of New Zealand’s premiere female vocalists, Ladi6 has worked on some of the most memorable kiwi tracks of late, with our country’s top music-makers including Fat Freddys Drop, Scribe, 50hz and of course, Shapeshifter. Keep your ears peeled for Ladi6’s debut album, out in January.

Tiki
Hot on the heels of his debut album release, this former soundman and voice of the multi-award winning group Salmonella Dub is stepping up and mesmerizing audiences with his impressive solo act. Catch this New Zealand music leader live and outdoors, in his hometown of Christchurch.

Connan and the Mockasins
Kooky indie psychedelic popsters Connan and the Mockasins defy description – suffice to say they are the minds behind such titles as ‘Sneaky Dog Friend’, ‘There Goes Tane’ and ‘I Nude You’. “Just when you think you've seen it all…along comes something so utterly new, unique and exciting you just know that the music world is about to be a little bit stirred and shaken up.” The quotes say it all…

Pig Out
Pig Out formed in Christchurch in March 2006. Their debut album ‘Club Poems’ shot to critical acclaim receiving nothing less than outstanding reviews: ‘Out of nowhere New Zealand’s finest live dance-punk band have made the best techno album to come out of this country ever…5/5” - Real Groove Magazine

The Mixtape Connection with Ed Musik
Christchurch-bred indie-electro explosion The Mixtape Connection return from tearing Melbourne’s party scene to pieces. Indie, electro, eclectic and cool, this fashionista will drop the sweet tracks while Ed Musik makes his move on the mic.

Ed Musik is a mainstay of Christchurch’s indie-electro scene. The self-proclaimed mobile disco has performed with many of our country’s brightest talents, including The Shocking Pinks, Frase and Bri, Charlie Ash and the 2007 Dux de Lux RounDUp winners Bang! Bang! Eche! Come in early to hear what Ed and the Mixtape connection team decide to begin the day with!

Hosted by Sticky Fingaz and the $mix Crew

Christchurch’s very own Hip Hop loud-hailer has been spreading the gospel up North. Following countless cameo appearances on RDU98.5FM, he returns for Sounday to remind us what it really is to hear the best from a bona fide beat preacher. Including special appearances from the crew of THE $MIX SHOW on RDU98.5FM – the undisputed hip-hop heavyweights of the airwaves, Sticky will introduce all the acts and keep the day flowing.

What a fantastic line-up. Up here is Blenheim we fans of live New Zealand music are absolutely starving for this sort of gig. The real keen among us have to travel far and wide to see anything this worthy. I travelled to Riwaka to see the Black Seeds recently and plan on going to Wellington for the big gig in April. I'm a poor-arse artist and so it's not easy finding the resources so I can appreciate and be inspired by these talented artist's eching out a living from their passion. www.absoluteartist.co.nz - Desperation requires rare feats of creative endeavour, I'm no poet but here goes.....

    Ode of an Artist

Me poor-arse artist does find it hard
Shacked up here in this Blenheim hole
Oh how I love those music vibration bards
But here we are with our starving souls
Us live New Zealand music moles

Those musos who so much do give
    Impart upon me such inspiration
Instil belief in my own conviction
That one day soon that I might live
    Upon my dream and passion!

There is nothing quite like a sunday session which involves a beauty summa day in the garden city and NZ beats cranking through the park! I would desperately love to go to sounday to soak in some Chch sun and enjoy the sounds of ladi6, shapeshifter, tiki and pig out!! As being a student funds are very tight! The summer months are largely for working to earn as much $ as poss b4 the year starts again!! Would love a day out before the new year of study and this would be the perfect opportunity! :)

    I've just arrived in Christchurch,
    a stranger to the place,
I transferred from the north island
Where life was one big race

Now I really need to have some fun
and meet new people in the sun
enjoy some music and good cheer
to start off my 2008 new year

    Like minded people enjoying life
Will be at the concert away from strife
Taking life happily at a good pace
Taking time out for music at this lovely place

They'll be in a good mood, social and happy
Hopefully chatty and singing and yakky
They'll make me feel welcome and let me join in
I'll make friends with strangers; for me that's a win

Time to relax with other music lovers too
We'll all have a great time
That's me and you and you and you!

No longer a stranger to this city I'll be
From great hospitality, singing, dancing so free
    So help end my dilemma
    and show me the way
To laugh, dance and sing the Cantabrian way!

Well where to go with this, My man and I would love to go as we have not got out of the house in like a year, We are near to having my third child so things are tight here and we really need a break from the sprogs, Espc before the next one arrives.. I love my man to bits and would love to get out and about for his sanity sake as he raises my first 2 children as his and loves them to bits and he finds all his time consumed by them or supporting us. I will do my best to get him there even if it is on his own :) I love Shapeshifter and would just adore to see them again!!! PLEASE PLEASE :)

    Bad luck hapens in threes.
Ive had very bad luck as of late. After withdrawing all of the money from my bank account with the intention of buying my sick grandmother a new car I spotted a charity box. Knowing that I had a little more cash than I needed for the car I pulled over to make a gonerous donation leaving the remainder of my money in the car. Having made the donation I returned to my car to find that it had been taken, along with my entire savings, the power and phone bills I was about to pay, and forms I was just about to drop at the insurance company to insure my car. So with a heavy head I began the walk, in the rain, to my house on the other side of town. On my journey I found a group of orphans having trouble crossing the road. Not wanting to spread my bad mood I gave them a cheerful hand to cross safely. In doing so I was hit by a truck and consequently both of my arms were broken.
As a result both arms were put in full length castes, After a few lonely depressed days on the couch with no phone, power or hot water I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and go for a walk. During this walk I happened upon an elderly lady who was in a bit of trouble in the middle of the road, she was stuck and the traffic just would not let up. Having not learnt my lesson earlier I gallantly held up a que of traffic, two lanes, weilding my castes as stop signs, in order for the elderly lady to safely continue on her journey. No sooner than she hobbled off the road a car decided to cut past the que and ran straight into me. Breaking both of my legs. The reason I would like tickets is that my sister, a lowly student has now come from auckland to help push my wheelchair and I have no way to repay her. She is a huge fan of shapeshifter and loves lady6. It would be great to be able to take her out for the day, even if she does have the burden of pushing me around...
