On January 1st 2006, the Auckland Racing Club introduced the ‘Mascot Dash for Charity Cash’ - a novelty event that entertained the large on-course crowd, supported charity and attracted significant media publicity. This year (2007), the “Mascot Dash” in association with Radio Sport was yet another crowd favourite, and it was ‘Mr. LJ Hooker Bear’ who stormed past the post first to win the grand prize for his chosen charity – the Meningitis Trust.

The race itself consists of an exhilarating 100m (handicapped) foot race down Ellerslie's famous home straight.

The winning mascot’s chosen charity will receive a superb prize that includes a valuable hospitality package at the Club’s annual Chinese New Year race meeting on Saturday 16th February 2008, along with advertising on the Radio Sport station. Each prize is transferable - thus the winning charity may auction the prize package to raise funds for their cause or keep it for their own use.

As the race is supported by Radio Sport, the Club has an extensive promotional schedule booked on the station in order to promote the event (and the participants in it). There may also be a number of other PR opportunities through other media. We believe Radio Sport’s “Mascot Dash for Charity Cash” is an ideal event to align your brand with not only a worthy charitable cause, but also a very popular sporting event.

If your business, club or organisation has a mascot who is keen to run for the charity of your choice, please contact Olivia Kinley, Marketing Co-ordinator, Auckland Racing Club on oliviak@ellerslie.co.nz
