Where: Mt Smart Stadium, Beasley Ave, Auckland

Ticket Information:

Following 2007's sell-out in Auckland, the 2008 Big Day Out promises to be one of the best music festivals we've ever seen, as well as one of the biggest.

Reunited political rockers Rage Against The Machine return to the stage they graced eleven years ago, where they'll joined by more legends from the alternative music universe including Icelandic genius Bjork, and Arcade Fire, the biggest indie rock act in the world, alongside the UK's grime hip-hop sensation Dizzee Rascal, American electro-racketeers LCD Sound System, local heroes Shihad, Phoenix Foundation, Katchafire and many more to be announced.

Throw in the traditional crowd-pleasing oldies (this year we welcome the original bard of Barking, Billy Bragg, and mighty Aussie storyteller Paul Kelly), a smattering of returning kiwi greats like The Clean and something interesting from Australia (be sure to check out the Hilltop Hoods) and a heavyweight line-up that will be added to in two further announcements... and you have a magical Big Day Out brew.

First Announcement:.
Rage Against the Machine, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Shihad, LCD Sound System, Dizzee Rascal, Billy Bragg, The Clean, Katchafire, The Phoenix Foundation, SJD, Grinspoon, Cut Off Your Hands, Hilltop Hoods, Paul Kelly, Battles, Young Sid, Antagonist, Motocade and White Birds & Lemons.

Second Announcement:
Unkle (live), Spoon, Scribe, Supergroove, Carl Cox, Krafty Kuts and MC Dynamite, Bleeders, Anti-flag, The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello acoustic), Tiki Taane, Dr Octagon with Kutmaster Kurt, Liam Finn, Kate Nash, Op Shop, Pluto, Die! Don’t wish to Bragg ‘cos I’m a Shy Child with Missing Teeth, currently wearing Shocking Pink from the Op Shop. Ooops, False Start! Now I feel All Left Out and sad, maybe I should Pig Out with comfort food and stop being a Dizzy Rascal but won’t eat too much in case I Bjork all over Young Sid. He would certainly rage Against the Machine and me as well, might even Cut Off Your Hands. Better if I take a Tiki Taane tour to the Hilltop Hoods, get a breath of The Clean fresh air then my Battles will be over. OK, that’s me outta here, I’m off to cook White Birds and Lemon for tea, hope they don’t Katchafire.

I'd love to head up to see pretty much every band play, lets face it, they all freakin' rock. But Rage'd have to be the best in show.

    Give me the tickets please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best: Bring on the Rage! Why: I always respect the youngsters and cut them some slack so they can enjoy their experience. Hell I've been there!I don't care if they're "Emo's" go nuts! But when Rage kicks off then get out of my way - this would be the best closure to my B.DO's, Chur!

The mcr show was AMAZING!! i'd seen them at the last BDO but this blew me away! my ears were ringing with delight for about two days after. not so good for my hearing but a wicked memory for years to come!! the fireworks and the flames and the teenagers dressed head to foot in black was what made this event all it was cracked up to be! oh and the talent of that super poser Gerard! i've never seen so many scissor kicks in one show...thanks for the tickets :)

I fell in love with Rage against the machine during my childhood when my sister used to play them all the time. Rage is sort of like our "thing". Its how my sister and I connect, so whenever I get the chance to see her (she doesn't live with me anymore) we always put on rage so we can rock out. I would really like to win BDO tickets so I can take her and so we can both get the chance to rock out to one of our favourite bands. That would definitely make both our days and be an awesome Christmas present. I would really love it if we could get to see Rage against the machine live because then we would finally have a memory that would stay with us forever. Then whenever I heard them play again I could be like "my sister went with me to see them play." Thank you for the chance to win these tickets!!

If I was lucky enough to win these tickets... what a wonderful gift this would be on Xmas day, can you imagine...I would have be the best person in the world...my 19 yr old son's girlfriend of two years (also19) would dearly love to have gone to this event but they don't have the funds due to career comittments. However with help I know they could do it...they can get there as he does have a car, (we could give petrol money for xmas), they have accomodation(his girlfriend bought a tent this year) and they will have a bed(we've bought him an airbed so far for xmas), they've got annual leave(so are able to go)...all that's missing is the tickets. What pleasure I'd have giving these two lovely people such a gift. Thanks for this great chance, I'll have every thing crossed :-) 46yr old Mum - Smallfam

Rage against the machine is always going to mean, they never fail to up the anti in terms of performance and sheer energy. Phoenix found. and Shihad are always going to be wicked. Bjork will be among the highlights as its a her voice is so unique - she has an amazing range of voice chords. But RATM.... say no more.

BDO 2008 - what an unholy amalgamation of metal, rock, hip hop and more. I am an avid BDO fan and can tell all the BDO virgins out there that once you've popped that Mt Smart virginity you'll be back for more regardless of the bands playing!
HOWEVER - this year - what a treat! A veritable smorgasboard of entertainment with something for everyone! My personal faves - internationally would have to be Rage Against the Machine. Songs to instantly take you back to teenage years where finding a ride to a party was the biggest issue of the week! Lyric yelling, body stomping bliss in a sea of fans - I have no doubt!
Locally though this year is better than I could have imagined! Katchafire and Tiki ALWAYS please so if you're into dancing in the sunshine and feeling the love don't miss these fantastic performers! Opshop, Supergroove and The Checks are also must sees! And lastly - Krafty Kuts - a blast from my London past on Aotearoa soil! Can't wait to check them!!!! ^0^
