Blue Lake Dub Experience

This year's event has unfortunately been postponed until December 2008.

When contacted by the Eventfinder team to find out why, organiser Frank Hickey explained:

"We are a couple of locals who were keen to promote Rotorua. We invested in the project last year and lost substantially which we expected but this was a long term plan. The event was in a prime location and we were always going to use it to showcase New Zealand bands in the Eastern bay of Plenty where very few bands came to. We feel last years concert has certainly lifted Rotorua's profile for type of gig and I have been emails constantly asking when are the tickets on sale. Everyone enjoyed last years concert we didn't have one complaint of note.

We were all go until earlier in the week we were advised one of our other main acts decided they had another commitment, we started to get the wobbles. After much sole searching, discussion with other members of the team involved , one got cold feet due to the publicity for Raggamuffin which is a lot more than we would be able to afford as locals and was really gaining momentum and we were starting to worry if the locals would support two events so close together.

All the bands were keen for the event to proceed and all were confident in this event being a success. The bands have been great especially Salmonella Dub, and very supportive as they realised what we were up against and all were keen to participate in the promoting. I was buoyed by this support and up until Sunday morning it was still all go and the promoting was starting. I got a couple of phone calls which changed all that.

We want to do these great New Zealand bands justice and have a event which is great for them and with a good crowd attending. I have decided to postpone to rethink our strategy and look at changing dates to before Christmas or through the break. This will all be dependant on the venue which we have very limited dates and times for.

Needless to say I am absolutely gutted to make this decision but financial risk started to mount very quickly and couldn't do on my own.

We always saw this as 5 year project, it was not even about making money, although a little would have justified the risk, and it was about getting bands to Rotorua. We will be working hard to get the next event sorted and we still believe a great location and this provided a great atmosphere for all."
