The FIRST EVER Taiko festival hosted by Wai Taiko, Hamilton featuring 2 professional drummers coming especially from Japan. Two exciting concerts over 2 days. The first, Friday 29th Feb, is an intimate evening with Riichi Yamauchi of Matsurishuu and Kenji Furutate of Dakanto. They will play a mixture of taiko and shamisen, this will be taiko like you've never seen, close up and personal.
The second concert on Sat 1st March will be a drumming extravaganza featuring performances by the professionals as well as a showcase of the different taiko drumming styles from other NZ groups. A dynamic combination of rhythm and movement in both traditional and contemporary pieces, this will be a fantastic chance to see the emergence of this stunning performing art in New Zealand.
This will be history in the making.
