Southern Sinfonia with Soloist: Bass Baritone Jonathan Lemalu; Conductor: Tecwyn Evans; MC: Garrick Tremain with University of Otago’s 2007 Outstanding Performance Music student, Rachel Swindells and the City of Dunedin Choir.

The already popular annual Last Night of the Proms will draw the crowds with the dazzling line-up of Jonathan Lemalu, Bass Baritone; Tecwyn Evans, Conductor and Garrick Tremain, MC. The imposing tones of the Dunedin Town Hall’s organ will be experienced when Rachel Swindells, University of Otago’s 2007 Outstanding Performance Music Student, is let loose on “Stormin’ Norma”. And of course, traditional Proms items will feature in the second half: Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Fantasia on British Sea Songs, and Pomp and Circumstance. Audience participation is a key element and they will be encouraged to dress up, have their faces painted, sing their hearts out, hold balloons, and throw streamers. The prize for the best dressed Promenader is “It’s a SUITE deal” sponsored by Southern Cross Scenic Circle and includes a night in a Southern Cross Hotel’s split-level suite, complimentary bottle of wine with an antipasto platter, pre-dinner drink vouchers, three course dinner and a complimentary full buffet breakfast. And the orchestra waits in anticipation to find out who will win the prize to have a go at conducting during the Proms.
