Skope Classic

The Southern Festival of Speed Series has been running as a Historic and Classic racing series since 1989 with hundreds of competitors from all over the world bringing their cars to New Zealand to re-enact the famous “down under” racing of the 60s, and 70s.

The 2008 SKOPE Classic will be held on the 1st/2nd/3rd February on the Powerbuilt Tools Ruapuna circuit. The invited marques for the 2008 event are CANAM, and Allard. A class will also be run for single seaters including Formula Atlantic and F5000.

The SKOPE Classic 2008

Well over 200 Vintage, Historic and Classic cars take part in this annual event, the most prestigious of its type to be held in N.Z.

Held at Powerbuilt Tools Ruapuna Raceway, the circuit is situated 30 minutes from the centre of the Christchurch City and just 15 minutes to the International Airport.

Invites are extended to Classic and Historic vehicles and their drivers to compete in the first Festival of Speed event of the three meeting series.

Powerbuilt Tools Ruapuna Raceway is a 3.3km anti clockwise circuit allowing starting grids of up to 45 cars. Turn 1 is off the end of the main straight and includes a kink 100metres from the corner itself which can add a little uncertainty on the high speed approach to the braking zone. A short back straight leads to the fast Pot Hole corner and into a tight hair-pin. A challenging set of corners takes you through the in-field onto the carousel followed by a very short straight into a moderate right then left hander. You can then build speed to attack the left hand sweeper bringing you back on to the main straight
