Jamaican Summer Beer Fete

Smithies, Goat Curry and Craft Beer – The Founders Summer Combo . . .

The 6th Nelson Beer Fete at Founders Park on 5 December is a special Summer Beer Fete featuring 20+ craft beers and ciders, Jamaican cuisine and the massive vinyl reggae collection of acclaimed DJ Grant Smithies.

To celebrate the arrival of summer, the Nelson Beer Fetes organisers Mic Dover and Eelco Boswijk have booked the special talents of local music writer and DJ Grant Smithies who will be airing 45s from his gargantuan collection of definitive Jamaican reggae, ska and rocksteady.

To enhance the Jamaican theme, there will also be hot food from the Jamaican kitchen of Karilyn Phillips including her famous Jerk Pork and Chicken as well as a goat curry! The usual range of other hot food options will also be available.

The beer and cider list for the December event includes several new beers to Nelson including Emerson's Thyme which uses Central Otago thyme honey and thyme leaves and flowers. Old herbal recipes used thyme to ease throat infections, colds, coughs, bronchitis and for shrinking swollen nasal passages.

Other debutants include a Summer Ale from the Yeastie Boys, Kortegast from Wigram, Keller from Green Man, Kristalweizen from Invercargill, two ciders from Redwood Cellars and a Pomona Cider from Monkey Wizard. Other beers available include Brass Monkey Lager from Monkey Wizard, Noir and Original from Moa, London Porter from Emerson’s, Hefe and Pale Ale from Tuatara, The Hef and Pils from Croucher, Golden Ale and IPA from 3 Boys, Sauvin Pils from The Twisted Hop, Stanley Lager from Invercargill, Captain Cooker and Golden Goose from The Mussel Inn, Blonde from Renaissance and last, but not least, Tall Blonde and Fair Maiden from Founders Organic Brewery.

The 6th Nelson Beer Fete takes place on Friday 5 December, 5.00 - 10.30pm in the Energy Centre at Founders Park, Nelson.

The $10 ticket price includes a free souvenir glass and a free first beer. Also available will be fine wines, hot tasty food, soft drinks amd EFTPOS.
