American Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy, featuring superstar David Beckham, will play an exhibition game against an Oceania All Stars XI at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday 6 December 2008.
The Oceania All Stars invitational team will be captained by former French international Christian Karembeu.
The Auckland Regional Council secured the match contract with the high profile club and is being supported by the Oceania Football Confederation, a natural partner in the soccer arena, and Auckland City Council, experts in delivering major events in Auckland.
As well as the match on Saturday 6 December, there will be a number of events while the LA Galaxy is visiting New Zealand, including an opportunity for school children to attend a training session.
In December 2007, the Galaxy travelled to Wellington as part of a two-match tour of Australia and New Zealand that. The Galaxy held a training session in front of more than 15,000 school children. A day later, a crowd of 31,853 was on hand to see the Galaxy defeat the Wellington Phoenix 4-1.
Tickets for the Auckland match go on sale through Ticketek on Wednesday 24 September 2008.
Ticket prices range from $45 to $180, with details posted on the Mt Smart Stadium website over the next few weeks.
