Massed Youth Voices again join forces with Youth Orchestra for a magnificent Christmas Concert.

It's one of the biggest massed youth choirs in the country, and it will perform in Auckland for a ‘one-off’ Christmas concert on Tuesday 9 December.

The 'Celebration of Youth' combines the Auckland Youth Choir, Auckland Boys' Choir, the Auckland Girls' Choir and the Aotea Youth Symphony in a "Celebration of Youth at Christmas" concert at Holy Trinity Cathedral - approximately 190 young singers and musicians.

Holy Trinity Organist, Philip Smith, will also accompany the concert on Organ.

Young people from 8 to 24 years will sing a variety of well known Christmas music for the 1 ½ hour long, evening's entertainment. Family favourites such as "Away in a Manger", "O Holy Night" and "O Come All Ye Faithful" will feature.

The concert is becoming an annual event, each year growing in size and popularity. With this in mind The Holy Trinity Cathedral has become the venue of choice to accommodate the swelling number of concert goers – over 500 are expected.

"This is an amazing experience – both for the audience and the young people performing," says Leonie Lawson, Director of Music of the Auckland Girls' Choir. "It gives youth, many of whom will progress into full time music careers, a chance to perform on a scale seldom realised. We present this concert annually. And every year these youngsters gain in confidence and professional experience through this one event. It's an entrée into a much higher level of musical poise. It also gives young people a focus on what Christmas means by thinking of others, especially disadvantaged young people and those in hospital, for whom they bring gifts.”

A Christmas tree will be erected for the Concert, and children of families attending are encouraged to bring a gift to place under the tree instead of paying an entry fee. The Anglican Trust for Women and Children and KidzFirst Children's Hospital will benefit.

"It's a concert for the whole family. Christmas means different things to different people but everyone enjoys a chance to join in the singing of well known carols" says Leonie.

Children 0-12 years: free – encouraged to bring a gift for the Christmas tree.
