Since its inception in 1959, the NZSO National Youth Orchestra has played a vital role in the musical life of New Zealand.
It has served as a specialised training ground for New Zealand’s most gifted young musicians, many of whom have forged careers here and abroad as orchestral players, soloists, chamber musicians and teachers.
The NZSO NYO owes a considerable debt of gratitude to its conductors, who succeed year after year in bringing together young players from diverse backgrounds and experience and, in the space of just six days, shaping them into the fine ensemble you will hear.
