Anika Moa – one of New Zealand’s most accomplished and best-selling artists of the decade – is set to play dates all across the country during July and August.

The announcement of these dates should inspire a similar feeling to when a friend we don’t see often enough lets us know of an impending visit: though Anika played the vineyards of New Zealand earlier this year, this winter’s tour sees her bringing it all back home to “regular” music venues nationwide.

This kind of thorough tour of venues large and small is fitting for the most down-to-earth of Aotearoa’s success stories. After three hit albums, the multi-platinum artist remains as honest and unaffected as when she first appeared at the turn of the decade believing her music “hobby” would only be a temporary distraction from her ambition to play rugby as a career.

Her latest album In Swings The Tide proves once and for all that Anika Moa doesn’t just play a style of music, but has a style of music. Open, heartfelt, and unpretentious, Anika’s music has been embraced by the mainstream and either side of it; and her ability to win friends and influence people with her live performance has increased alongside the many boundaries she crosses. It is certainly not every performer who can captivate Ryan Adams along with winning over his audience; and her plain-spoken appeal makes her musical achievements appear all the more remarkable.

Joining Anika on this nationwide jaunt is her friend Anna Coddington, whose recent debut album The Lake saw Anika repaying backing vocal favours after Anna had contributed to both the Stolen Hill and In Swings The Tide albums.

Having Anna on board for this tour is a coup: it is a rare thing indeed that two of NZ’s most unique singer/songwriter talents appear on the same bill in every corner of the country.

Tickets also available from CDs 4 Nix.

    After a long hard day
Let the night take you away
Feet are warm, Snuggle in bed
Rest on your pillow your ragdoll head
Dream of flying, dream of cars
dream of having a relaxing bath.
Dream of good, dream of sin
    Analysed by Sue Nicholson
The day went fast, the night is slower
Drift off to the sound of Anika Moa

Anita Moa has always seduced me with her sound. I listen and I become lost in a magic world. She takes me away till I float among the stars losing track of time and space, drowning in the simplicity and the pure sensuousness of her music. Anna Coddington is new to me but it was easy to find web videos of her performing, I listened and watched. Again, she has that spellbinding quality where you become unwittingly absorbed in her performance and just drift along lost in the rhythm and simple pleasure of the sound. Makes me thin of lying in a warm bath with your eyes closed and the gentle perfume of apple blossoms drifting through the window. Mmmm..... No fuss, just a honeyed daydream l

I'd SO love to see Anika Moa in concert because I've watched her grow within the music industry with raw talent and seemingly without any effort - she made it internationally. What I really love though, is that her heart is true blue (green in our case!) Aotearoa...and so here she is, still doing what she loves, in the place she loves most, for us.
