MIC Toi Rerehiko present the 2008 programme of the best New Zealand short films in Homegrown, now in its 12th year.
Homegrown 1 screens on Saturday 2 August at 4.15pm and again on Monday 4 August at 2.15 pm.
This year’s selection is drawn from a particularly inspiring year of local short filmmaking.
From the screenplay to the final edit, these are films of intelligence and beauty; they are daring and difficult, witty and poignant.
They are films about love, loneliness, friendship and survival, which move comfortably at their own pace, telling their story with confidence and clarity and offering a contemporary view of New Zealand and our place in the world.
Homegrown 2 screens on Saturday 9 August at 4.15pm and again on Monday 11 August at 4.15pm.
This Homegrown features the work of ex Christ's College student, Elliot McKee whose film "Ronnie Grimble' has been a hit in Auckland and Wellington. Homegrown 2 features films that a characterised by a strong spirit of innovation and skillful irreverence, demonstrating a keen eye for drama, pathos and black humour.
Homegrown 3 screens on Saturday 16 August at 5.00pm, and this selection brings you a fast-fire combination of 13 highly adventurous and thoughtful approaches to drama, animation and experimental film.
From the melancholic to the satirical, these films embody the beautiful, poignant and often absurdly funny travails of human and alien conditions.
The film "Bulb" by David Collins benefits not only from the help and expertise of many of his friends but also from the experience of cinematographer and Christchurch legend, John Chrisstoffels.
