Anika Moa – one of New Zealand’s most accomplished and best-selling artists of the decade – is set to play dates all across the country during July and August.

The announcement of these dates should inspire a similar feeling to when a friend we don’t see often enough lets us know of an impending visit: though Anika played the vineyards of New Zealand earlier this year, this winter’s tour sees her bringing it all back home to “regular” music venues nationwide.

This kind of thorough tour of venues large and small is fitting for the most down-to-earth of Aotearoa’s success stories. After three hit albums, the multi-platinum artist remains as honest and unaffected as when she first appeared at the turn of the decade believing her music “hobby” would only be a temporary distraction from her ambition to play rugby as a career.

Her latest album In Swings The Tide proves once and for all that Anika Moa doesn’t just play a style of music, but has a style of music. Open, heartfelt, and unpretentious, Anika’s music has been embraced by the mainstream and either side of it; and her ability to win friends and influence people with her live performance has increased alongside the many boundaries she crosses. It is certainly not every performer who can captivate Ryan Adams along with winning over his audience; and her plain-spoken appeal makes her musical achievements appear all the more remarkable.

Joining Anika on this nationwide jaunt is her friend Anna Coddington, whose recent debut album The Lake saw Anika repaying backing vocal favours after Anna had contributed to both the Stolen Hill and In Swings The Tide albums.

Having Anna on board for this tour is a coup: it is a rare thing indeed that two of NZ’s most unique singer/songwriter talents appear on the same bill in every corner of the country.

Tickets also available from The Masonic and Real Groovy Auckland.

    My dreams have no substance,
    As elusive as song,
    Fleeting as tune
    Or shadows on grass.

    My dreams are my substance;
    They can poison or nourish me;
    They are Anika and Ann,
    They shine in melody.

    My dreams are my essence,
    The soul in my striving,
    Slyly conniving
    To win and persue.
    They blog and they try
    To being and listening.
    they forsake me
    I die.

    What is that sound,
I can barely make out the words,
Now I feel like “My old Man”,
I knew the tune, years ago,
I “Dreamt In My Head” into the lyrics.

In a language strange to me,
Anika has a tear in her eye
She calls a name, I want to be…

I can’t make it out, but the melody
and the dreams in my head, are Waiting.

Well i have these amazing dreams in my head in bed at night....
    Magical....fantastical.....astrological....and even realistically surreal dreams...
    its like watching television...
    but its my dreams....
    in colour....voices....and seeing people...
ive never seen or met before in my life.....
they say dreams is an extension of who we r....
    the psyche...thoughts ...feelings....emotions...dreams/goals....issues etc....
    so its all interconnected...
    in saying that....
to c Anika and Anna live....
would b a dream come true...
being there....the ambience...their presence and gift of voice/song/lyric/instrument and creating a journey of the soul/spirit
encompasses all elements of a human being....
so yea i would love to win tickets to b there in amongst it all to c 2 incredible gifted/talented women.....
    malo aupito
    thank u
    Keleni

I LOVE ANIKA and have done from the very first time i heard her!! I saw her in Auckland supporting Dave Dobbyn and Lucy Lawless and it was just frigging awesome! She is one of the most down to earth and friendly singers i have ever seen! My dream would be to boogie and sing along with her songs, meet with her backstage, down a couple of drinks and just chill out! She really comes across as just a normal kiwi, and as I'm a westie, i have pretty much no pretensions (no, i don't have black jeans anymore, or tassled boots) but just really enjoy life.
