Robotic whiz kids from all over New Zealand will enter the ring to pit their robotic skills against each other in this year’s RoboCup Junior National Finals on September 8th.

In 3 electrifying competitions - Robot Dance, Rescue and Soccer - school teams compete against each other in this wild and crazy event that sees students skilfully programming their robots to defeat their opponents!

RoboCup Junior New Zealand is the national robotics competition for schools that encourages children to explore scientific and technological fields, be creative with robotics and have fun! RoboCup Junior competitors are fantastic problem solvers who have to think laterally and independently to develop and master their robots.

In Dance, students choreograph a short dance sequence for their grooving robots, Soccer sees robots chasing an infrared ball around a soccer table and Rescue allows those crafty robots to negotiate themselves around an obstacle course to locate and rescue a “lost animal”. All the action is in a specially designed competition-ring with live, thrilling commentary from MC Tim Jones.

RoboCup is an international project, a university-based competition involving research scientists and engineers. RoboCup Junior, a subsidiary of RoboCup, is an event aimed specifically for school students to foster an interest in science, technology engineering and learning.
