Tempoº brings together a fine collection of diverse music and styles with this year’s World Dance Showcase on the 29th of September as Maori, African, Chinese and Scottish cultures will have a chance to showcase their techniques at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre in Western Springs. This is one to book quickly as it was one of the hits of last year’s festival.
The Te Wanaga o Aotearoa Maori performing arts students will showcase New Zealand’s indigenous culture.
One of the oldest Highland dances, the Ghillie Callum (The Sword Dance) will be exhibited as Rachel Bates, a senior pupil in Highland and National Dancing, performs with the accompaniment of bagpipes by Robert Halliday.
Bollywood dance tutor Monisha Kumar will display both a classical Indian dance style and the hip Bollywood style in the showcase.
Yu- Fen Wang, an award winner and one of the most talked about performances at last year’s Tempoº, returns this year with a solo dance routine from the Chin Dynasty which is traditionally performed for the royal family.
