Prepare for the largest quilt sale New Zealand has seen - a show where everything is for sale.
At the first Quilt Show and Sale at Shed 11 in 2005, over 3000 viewers created such a rush on quilts that organisers Sharon Perry and Judi Ferguson had to ring around to top up their stocks, draped over furniture as well as on walls. Most of the many quilts sold over the 10 days went out the door with buyers on the spot.
This year’s second sale in October promises to be bigger, brighter and better, say Perry and Ferguson, veteran Wellington quilters. There’ll be more colourful quilts across the spectrum, from artists’ one-offs selling at over $5000 to the cosier “thumb-sucking” variety, on offer for under $100.
Quilters around the country have been stitching up a storm, urged on by the success of the first show. Overseas visitors were especially delighted, since New Zealand quilters are recognised as producing some of the best work internationally.
This is the sort of show you visit more than once as the quilts hanging on the walls change almost daily.
