Heritage Week is an annual event where organisations North Shore City-wide celebrate their heritage in a manner of their choosing. There are a huge range of events, displays, competitions and activities across the city between Sunday, October 28 and Sunday, November 4.

More detailed information can be found on www.northshorecity.govt.nz key word Heritage Week or from local libraries and community coordinators.

The heritage of our community groups, our buildings, our businesses, our sport, our traditions, our arts, our culture, our schools, our environment, and the many, many people that make up North Shore City is important to us all. While many people have a passion for celebrating, respecting and sharing our city’s heritage, a great number of our residents and businesses don’t have an understanding of what our heritage is or why it’s important. The North Shore Golden Weather Heritage Week 2007 is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the many aspects of our city’s heritage and bring it to life and to the forefront across our city.

'Heritage' is about anything with significance or other special value for future generations as well as for the community today. Some communities boast a physical heritage back into the early 1900’s and before, others became more established in the early ‘60’s after the bridge was opened. The organisations within each community may have anything from one year to one hundred years to celebrate. The time period is not the issue; the focus is the past, present and future heritage of that particular organisation, business, environment or culture that is worthy of celebration.

North Shore City Council helps promote the various events to encourage recognition and celebration.
