Heaven, Earth & Hell

Famous for their riveting performances that combine sensuality, sophistication and the true essence of tango, Argentina’s premium dance company Corporacion Tango make their NZ premiere on October 19 touring to Nelson, Tauranga and Auckland with the acclaimed stage sensation Heaven, Earth & Hell.

Departing from the cliché that has seen a raft of Latin dance companies performing “tango for export” on the world stage the eight piece ensemble that is Corporacion Tango have dazzled audiences with their passionate and synchronized group show " a first for Argentina. Tracing the history of tango from traditional to contemporary times Heaven, Earth and Hell symbolizes the high emotional states experienced by the human soul Cielo, Tierra and Infierno in a passionate and seductive three act performance.

‘Cielo’ (Latin for ‘sky’) details the ethereal tango and its romantic, poetic and sensual impact on the soul. ‘Tierra’ (‘earth’) showcases the traditional ‘salon dancing’ that Argentinean tango is renowned for, evoking the feelings that man is always trying to conserve his roots and origins. ‘Infierno’ (‘hell’) embraces modern tango as a means to describe the darker side of the soul " liberal, transgression, and the search for evolution by crossing limits and arriving beyond.

Set to the powerful music of traditional Argentinean tango, the creators of Heaven, Earth and Hell have eliminated the typical literal stereotypes which detract from their purpose of delivering ‘pure’ dance and conserving the raw essence of the tango’s principle role " maximum expression!

Since their creation in 2003 the company has performed over 100 times including seasons at World Music festivals all over the world, including high profile shows in Italy, Uruguay and Japan. The four pairs all have ties to the Ballet Folklorico Nacional (National Folkloric Ballet) in their native Argentina and have performed in a variety of prestigious venues including the regular appearances at the Faena Hotel in Buenos Aires. Their acclaimed show with Rojo Tango Cabaret was a 2006 nominee for ‘Best Musical Show of Argentina’ at the prestigious ACE awards.
