"South Pacific" is regarded by many as one of the greatest musicals of all time. Several of its songs such as "Some Enchanted Evening", "A Wonderful Guy", "Younger than Springtime", "There is Nothing like a Dame" and Bali Ha'i have become worldwide standards.
Set on a South Pacific island during the second world war, the story revolves around the relationships between two couples. U.S. navy nurse, Nellie Forbush from Arkansas falls in love with a middle-aged French plantation owner, Emile de Beche and Lieutenant Joe Cable of the U.S. Marines arrives on the island on a spy mission that is hoped will turn the tide of the war against Japan and he falls in love with an island girl, Liat who is the daughter of Bloody Mary, the local souvenir dealer.
When marriage is proposed for the couples, both Nellie and Joe struggle with deep-seated ethnic prejudices and believe they have no option but to discontinue their relationships.
"South Pacific" has it all - great music, great story, sadness, happiness, comedy, pathos and everything in-between.
