Well done Catherine for responding so quickly and eloquently.

While we have no comment either way, we think the manner in which you handled this criticism is extremely professional and entirely appropriate.

    Dear Raewyn,

I was saddened to hear of your daughters reaction to the skeleton in last year's show as part of the performance of the song 'Dem Bones'.

Talking to the concert manager, I understand 30,000 children have now participated in this show and this is the only complaint received about the skeleton, but as we assured your husband a couple of times on the telephone last year, we take it very seriously. As a child-focussed organisation, the last thing we ever want to do is upset a child.

After learning of your concern last year, we now try to warn all new entrant teachers that there will be a dancing skeleton in the show so they can prepare any children they think are likely to be upset by it.

Kids for Kids shows use props and costumes to put together a professional production. While Kids for Kids has been a very popular and fun part of Kiwi children's lives for 14 years, the content of the show changes regularly and we are now reviewing whether we will use any props at all next year.

    With very best wishes,
    Catherine Healy and Chrissy Fletcher

I really liked the show but my daughter was so traumatised by the skeleton she had to be taken off half time. You could hear her screaming above over 500 children. Then the slideshow - she thought it was coming back and started screaming again. After that she would NOT go in her school choir this year until this week and only knowing that she would not be going back to the Kids for Kids concert to perform. AND she doesn't even want to go and watch. She had nightmares for months after this. We got no response from the promoters or anyone involved in this concert - very disappointed by them.
