The Moa Hunt

It will be an unforgettable mountain bike ride of rare beauty and guaranteed Moa find on Kaikoura’s Pacific Coast.

Somewhere out there, inland from picturesque Kekerengu on the Kaikoura Coast is the lair of the largest bird to walk the surface of our country, the Moa.

This is your invitation to join the expeditionary mountain bike forces of the inaugural 'Kekerengu Moa Hunt’.

Setting forth from the hospitable confines of the award winning Kekerengu Store, you and your intrepid companions will venture into the seaward Kaikoura’s, climbing to over 500m above sea level to enjoy magnificent vistas of the coastline stretched below.

A quick recharge of the lungs with clear mountain air then seawards you ride with the law of gravity on your side for a classic downhill run.

Between 2 and a half and 5 hours later the hospitality team will bid you welcome back at the Kekerengu Store after having completed just over 40 kilometres of some of the most exhilarating riding you will ever experience and invite you to enjoy a hearty Moa-hunter's repast.

Finally, celebrate the day with a yummy meal from the Store’s kitchen and then listen for your number to be called for one of the many spot prizes including 2 high-end Giant mountain bikes.

As the sun goes down we will toast the elusive Moa and those who have fallen in its pursuit.

This is where our search starts and finishes on the Pacific Coast at the renowned Kekerengu Store half way between Kaikoura and Blenheim.
