Shivkumar Sharma is a highly revered composer and performer of the 100 string santoor, a hammered dulcimer. Shivkumar’s unique contribution to Indian classical music has been to modify and bring the santoor, a humble folk instrument from Kashmir, to the world concert stage.
He will play a selection of traditional ragas, in jugalbhandi (duet) with his upcoming son and disciple Rahul.
He once described to The Age critic the effect of santoor music as romantic and pensive, like ripples on the surface of the Dal Lake in moonlight.
The two are accompanied on the tabla by Yogesh Samsi.
“He coaxed from the 100-string santoor the most beguiling melodies, building to a virtuosic ecstasy.” (The Advertiser)
