A story of tyrants and a woman's revenge

Rock Opera in one act. Sung in English

Ground Breaking New Zealand musical theatre composed by Clive Cockburn and performed by Georgia Duder.

Boadicea was Queen of the Iceni, where Norfolk is today.

The opera tells of her last hours in 61 A.D. The story starts in the early hours of the morning of the final battle between the Romans and Boadicea's huge but untrained army of farmers, grocers and their ‘wives, babes and dogs’. It ends with her defeated, on the run, realising suicide is her only option.
This catastrophe, because she refused demands by the Romans to repay a non-existent loan to her late husband, King Prasutagus.

Amazingly we only know about her vengeance through Roman sources, Dio Cassius and Tacitus. No British version exists.
Historians tell us that the resulting ‘Boadicea uprising’ caused the deaths of approximately 10% of the population of England and Wales.

Composer, Clive Cockburn has been a finalist on five occasions and winner on three, of the ‘Best Original Music’ category at the New Zealand Film and Television Awards. His score for the Maori ‘Merchant of Venice’ was New York Critics’ choice of film score in 2002.

‘Boadicea’ is portrayed by Georgia Duder from the recent hit Sweet Charity. Georgia has performed internationally for Cameron Mackintosh Ltd. and has had roles in many other renowned productions including Les Miserables and Hair.
