JOC
jewellery out of context

Auckland Festival, AK 07

JOC is an exciting exhibition of New Zealand jewellery practitioners that was originally curated by Peter Deckers and Dr Carole Shepheard for the 2006 International Jewellers and Metalsmiths' Group of Australia conference.

All of the makers in the exhibition were invited ‘to examine the jewellery phenomenon and the surrounding discourses and to reappraise it through the process of creative interrogation, intervention and re-contextualization.' The result is an exhibition in which jewellery, one of the strongest object practices in New Zealand, is expanded beyond traditional boundaries and pre-conceived notions.

The Objectspace incarnation of JOC will feature most of the installations from the Sydney exhibition, which have been reworked for their only New Zealand showing. After Objectspace, the JOC exhibition will move on to Canada and then to the Netherlands. The exhibition will feature over 20 installations by New Zealand jewellers based locally and internationally.

The exhibition JOC will be accompanied by a publication available from Objectspace.

Objectspace is a dedicated centre for craft and design that puts objects into play through exhibitions, publications and events.

Tues to Sat, 10am to 5pm
