The magic of the Derby has global appeal with each racing nation around the world using this title to describe their premier race for 3 year old horses.

First raced in New Zealand in 1875, the Derby folklore is littered with tales of triumph and tragedy in a race where an equine athlete has only one chance to add their name to the honour roll of champions.

The action is not solely confined to the track… Mercedes Prix de Fashion is the nationwide racing fashion final, where fashion hopefuls will compete on the catwalk against winners from fashion events across the country!

The Auckland Cup is the most well known horse race in the country and is an icon of Ellerslie and the city of Auckland. First run in 1874, the Auckland Cup is raced over 3200m and is a test of courage, stamina and determination. The history of the race is matched by the magnificent sliver trophy that dates back to the reign of Queen Victoria.
