We welcome talented conductor Emmanuel Joel-Hornak for a programme full of joie-de-vivre. Erik Satie's exuberant and quirky ballet music Parade launches the evening, which also sees the return of extraordinary young violinist Feng Ning, whose concert and recital were one of the highlights of 2006. He plays Saint-Saëns' opulent third concerto, a lyrical masterpiece.
After the interval Gareth Farr, the APO's new Composer-in-Residence, takes the stage for the first time with the world premiere of a new commission work. The concert concludes with Schumann's life-affirming 1st symphony, the so-called "Spring" symphony.
