Opera in the Pa - Special 10th Anniversary

From the majesty of Te Papaiouru, Rotorua’s premier marae at the steaming heart of Ohinemutu Village, to the magical island of Mokoia, set against a backdrop of the setting sun reflected on rippling waters of Lake Rotorua – there’s no doubt the upcoming 10th Anniversary of Opera in the Pa will be something truly special not to be missed.

“Our vision has always been about showcasing the best of NZ upcoming operatic talent – be it Maori, Pacific or European. We aimed to do this in a way that is distinctly unique, be it in the presence of ancestors on the marae or on sacred islands such as Mokoia” comments Bill Kingi.

“Its great to look back on the Opera in the Pa’s of the past, particularly when you consider many of the artists we supported back then are today becoming celebrities in their own right. That was always the view of our late patron and founding trustee Rt. Rev. Manuhuia Bennett. He always knew that one day our support and manaakitanga of those young artists would come back to the people in the future” comments Oscar Nathan.

Our journey so far has been fantastic. The event is now well established as an icon of Rotorua’s event calendar. With the intention of adding such special touches as a choir, visual screen and an orchestra – the upcoming special 10th Anniversary Opera in the Pa - it will be our most memorable ever. Tickets will be available nationwide through Ticketek from November.
