Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival is transforming the landscape of the New Zealand performing arts scene.
The beinnial festival attracts audiences of 35,000 and growing. It not only celebrates the indigenous culture and arts of Maori but also encourages New Zealanders to take pride in an unparalleled event. Haka is part of our history. It is for all of us to share.
During the festival 32 competing groups from across the nation battle for supremacy in Maori Performing Arts. Teams are representing the honour of their tribes, their people, their families and their history. If the haka stirs excitement overseas, on home turf it must rip through the soul - powerful, deafening and passionate.
