The Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series has stepped up an already intense rivalry between the Blackcaps and their trans-Tasman rival Australia.
The Blackcaps host the three-match ODI series for the second time, determined to wrestle the Trophy from the world champion.
Last year's contest was almost too close to call, with nail biting finishes deciding the outcome.
The series concluded with the Blackcaps record-breaking run chase, with Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum striking the winning runs.
