A Skull in Connemara is a continuation of Martin McDonagh's Leenane trilogy. As with Beauty Queen of Leenane and Lonesome West it looks at the relationships of the residents of a small village in Leenane in Co. Galway on Ireland's West Coast.Mick Dowd who spent 7yrs in prison for the death of his wife Oona through a drink driving accident, is also the local gravedigger and is given the job of digging up his wife's bones.
Helping is Mairtin Hanlon, a local youth, full of life and with no sense of decorum, who has a tendency to say exactly what he has on his mind regardless of the consequences. Maryjohnny Rafferty, local gossip and marathon bingo player knows more about Oona ' s death than she lets on. Thomas Hanlon, Mairtin’s older brother and policeman, with delusions of grandeur far greater than his ability, sees conspiracies everywhere and is a source of derision in the village.
Watch as the characters, through, some very clever verbal exchanges tear each other apart with abuse, gossip and innuendo.
