The New Zealand Film Festival Trust and the Regent Theatre are pleased once again to brighten up your autumn movie-going options with the ninth annual World Cinema Showcase. Like a miniature version of the winter event the Showcase premieres a selection of fresh, stimulating, and provocative films from around the world and provides exposure for some exceptional films and filmmakers who aren't assured of a release in New Zealand.

As always, this year's programme is packed with international drama, exciting new directors, big-name stars as well as stars in the making, quality documentaries and refurbished classics.

Highlights include:

- Little Children, the highly anticipated second feature by In the Bedroom director Todd Field, starring Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly as the Opening Night film

- A rare chance to see Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn at their very best, as John Huston's The African Queen makes a welcome return to the big screen.

- Emily Barclay's (In My Father's Den) award winning performance in Australian feature Suburban Mayhem

- Timothy Spall in Pierrepoint - a fascinating portrait of England's most prolific hangman - Albert Pierrepoint.

- Catch a Fire - A rousing political thriller by renowned Australian director Phillip Noyce (Rabbit Proof Fence) set in South Africa in the turbulent 1980's.

- A plethora of music documentaries and music themed feature films - including Dixie Chicks: Shut Up & Sing and The U.S. vs. John Lennon.

- Foreign language films from France, Germany, Sweden, Cuba, Italy, Vietnam and more.
