Wales' superb Morriston Orpheus Choir returns to Christchurch in April 2007 for a one night only performance.
The Morriston Orpheus Choir will perform at the Christchurch Town Hall, on Monday 16 April as part of a 2007 tour to Dubai, Australia and New Zealand.
The choir was last in New Zealand in 2003 and performed to sold out audiences.
Internationally acclaimed and known as "the Rolls Royce of choirs", the Morriston Orpheus Choir has a 71-year history with more than 500 live performances and 25 albums to its name and has performed in the world's greatest venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, the opening of the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales and to standing ovations at Sydney Opera House.
The choir features 90 male voices on stage with a programme including a mix of traditional, pop and contemporary songs.
The 2007 tour will be the first opportunity for New Zealand audiences to hear the choir under the baton of the recently-appointed Musical Director Sian Pearce - the first woman to hold the post in the choir's history.
Sian Pearce was appointed following the retirement of Alwyn Humphreys.
"It's a good job the choir members are seasoned travellers," says Sian Pearce. "This is a very exciting tour with a true intercontinental dimension. It will be hard work but the boys are more capable of delivering outstanding performance to our audiences. We are going to be practicing very hard in the months leading up to our departure."
And the choir has a very special New Zealand link - All Black coach Graham Henry is a vice president of the Morriston Orpheus Choir.
