The Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra with The Waitakere City Ladies Choir presents a shared concert of music and song for Sunday afternoon entertainment
The Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra players will perform with mandolins of all sizes, the mandolin, the mandola, the liuto and the mandolon. Mandolin music can evoke the full range of feelings that people experience. The mandolin expresses the highs and lows of life. Both the orchestra and the choir perform music from a wide range of musical styles with the orchestra's broad repertoire ranging from folk and traditional music of Europe, Northern and Eastern European cultures, classical and semi-classical, easy listening, contemporary American, Latin and South American, as well as some Asian music and the choir singing classical, religious, folk, show tunes, both accompanied and acapella. An International Mandolin Festival will be in Sydney in January 2008 and this is an opportunity to extend the invitation to all to put together a truly national group, conducted by Bryan Holden, to represent our our country at this prestigious international event. WAITAKERE CITY LADIES CHOIR The choir has been in existence in one form or another for over 50 years. It originated as a Country Women’s Institute choir, and a few of the ladies from that original group are still members of the choir today, including pianist and musical director Marilyn Cameron. In 2000 the choir changed its name to the Waitakere City Ladies Choir, to better represent the diversity of members. Members range in age from their thirties through to eighties, but the one common thread that pulls us all together is our love of music. Kieth Stubbley has conducted the choir for the last seven years.
