The combined forces of the City of Dunedin Choir , the Southern Sinfonia , massed secondary schools choir, and soloists will present, as a special Festival event, the South Island premiere of David Hamilton’s triumphant new work Missa Pacifica.

Blending contemporary poetry and music from New Zealand , the Pacific and Asia with the texts of the Latin Mass, New Zealand composer David Hamilton has created an epic and magnificent work. Reaching beyond an orchestra’s normal resources, Hamilton ’s work allows the audience and performers to relish in an unusually large percussion section which includes traditional Polynesian drums.

A work of substantial proportions Missa Pacifica, stands alongside its companion piece, which has identical orchestration, Bernstein’s flamboyant and poignant Chichester Psalms.

This Otago Festival concert will be an evening of evocative and thrilling music.

Part of the Otago Festival of the Arts.
