The International Six Day Enduro, or ISDE as it is commonly referred to, is regarded as the 'Olympics of Motorcycling'. It is the most extreme form of offroad endurance teams racing.
The very first ISDE was held in 1913 with the objective of testing the reliability of motorcycles and the skill of riders. It is an event that spans over 80 years with the 81st year of competition set to take place this year in Taupo, November 14-19 at the Taupo Motorsport Park.
The ISDE attracts riders form a range of different disciplines - motocross, cross country and enduro. Confirmed riders include multi world enduro champion Stefan Merriman and ex world motocross champions Joel Smets and New Zealands own Shayne King.
The ISDE race format can be compared to the International car rally where competitors are timed to the thousandth of a second over special stages with penalties for exceeding the allocated time between checkpoints. Days 1-5 cover over 250km of trail per day and include 5 special tests.
The event culminates in the final motocross test on Day 6 (Sunday) at the Digger McEwen Motocross track in Taupo. Spectators will witness 15 hard core races that will decide the winning nation and individual.
