The Harbour Capital event is organised by the Wellington Marathon Clinic, and in 2006 will be celebrating its 21st year since first starting in 1985.

The race, which attracts runners and walkers from all over the country, has now grown into the largest long-distance running event in the Wellington region, and one of the larger events in New Zealand.

The 2005 event attracted a record turnout with over 3,600 registered entries.
The event includes a half-marathon (21km), marathon (42km) and 10 kilometre distances catering for both runners and walkers. Starting and finishing at the Westpac Stadium, all courses follow the scenic Wellington City harbour side, with the marathon going through to Breaker Bay before returning to the Westpac Stadium.

The event attracts both elite athletes as well as a wide range of casual runners and walkers. The event is accredited by Athletics New Zealand and in 2006 the marathon is also the Wellington District Championship.
