The Auckland premiere of the hilarious smash-hit celebration of women and The Change!

Smash hit musical comedy Menopause The Musical comes to Auckland in August, following sold out seasons in Sydney and Melbourne. Menopause The Musical opens at The Civic, THE EDGE, Auckland on Thursday 17 August 2006 with previews from 11 August.
The show's mix of comedy, musical parody and a ‘hot’ topic has earned Menopause The Musical long seasons and huge audiences wherever it has played; from New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, Orlando, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Boston, Sydney, Melbourne and currently Brisbane and Perth with audiences in Australia already reaching the 200,000 mark.
The 90-minute musical comedy features four main characters: a professional woman, an earth mother, a housewife and an ageing soap star respectively who meet at a department store lingerie sale.
The Auckland season will feature New Zealand entertainment icon Angela Ayers (currently performing in the Brisbane season) as the housewife and New Zealand actor Debbie Penney is also part of the company covering for the earth mother and power woman roles.
Inspired by "a hot flush and a bottle of wine", author and producer Jeanie Linders created the hilarious musical as a celebration of the event that launches women into an exciting new phase of their lives.
"Most women know intuitively that every other woman is experiencing memory loss, night sweats, or hot flushes," says Linders. "But when they are in a theatre with hundreds of women – not just a few sympathetic friends – and all are laughing and shouting 'that's me!' then they know what they are experiencing is normal. They aren't crazy. It becomes a sisterhood."
Director Gary Young, (Resident Director of Mamma Mia! in Australia), has been delighted with the audience reaction. "I saw this smash hit show in the United States, and the Australian production matches it all the way. The audiences just love it and we’re excited to be bringing the show to New Zealand.”
Featuring 22 popular songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s, Menopause The Musical has proved to be a hilarious night out with explosions of laughter coming from the capacity audiences!
Menopause The Musical is at The Civic, THE EDGE from August 17 (previews from August 11). Tickets are on sale through Ticketek.
