Wellington’s favourite monthly Bachata Latin dance party!

Join us for an awesome mix of bachata, focusing on the best sensual tracks and remixes, along with salsa and a smattering of kizomba and zouk. We welcome everyone, from the absolute beginner to the most experienced dancer. We’re all about the joy of social dancing together.

And what makes a free party with great people even better? A free beginners’ bachata lesson with some of Wellington‘s best Latin dance teachers. If you’ve never danced bachata, Latin dance or even any other dance style before then this is the perfect lesson for you. We will have you dancing like a pro in no time!

Bailamos Bachata is hosted free of charge by the Southern Cross. They love the atmosphere we bring but we also need to support them in return. We’re asking everyone attending to purchase soft drinks, food or alcohol from the bar. It’s vital we show our gratitude.

1800-1830 social
1830-1900 free lesson
1900-2100 social

What is bachata?
- Bachata is a popular and fun Latin couples dance. It started in the Dominican Republic, then travelled to Europe and the rest of the world. It now includes a wide range of music styles and dance influences and is still changing and evolving.

I haven’t danced before, is that a problem?
- Not at all! That’s exactly what the lesson is for – everyone has to start somewhere and we’re a very welcoming crowd for beginners.

Is bachata a difficult dance to learn?
- Its origins as a party/community dance mean the basics can be learnt quite quickly, so you’ll be enjoying yourself in no time.

Who are the capital bachata collective?
- We are the combined Wellington dance schools and people teaching bachata and we really want to share this dance with everyone. We love bachata, we love our community and we want to share it with you
