Midday Concert
5 Story Place, Taupo, Lake TaupoRestrictions

This month’s concert offers two quite varied musical genres – a bit of chamber and a bit of jazz/soul. Taupo-nui-a-Tia College students prepare for the Secondary Schools NZ Chamber Music competitions in Tauranga on Tuesday 15 June and two groups will be performing in preparation. The ‘Tied Notes Trio’ with Daisiah Porteous on flute, Charlotte Rosenberg on violin and Peter Marshall (standing in for Joseph Craggs), on clarinet, will perform the first movement of Beethoven's Serenade Op. 25. The second group ‘Wobble’ performs a modern work by Paul Trapkus innocuously called 'Trio for 3 Violins'. The Wobble ensemble includes Kylie Bathe, Morgan Thaker and Amy Aldridge.
In contrast, Sue Brown a local vocalist, is known for her soulful sound. Although she sings many genres of music, she enjoys jazz most of all.
Sue has been in the music scene in Taupō for many years performing as part of the group ‘Jazz Renaissance’. When the other band members moved away from Taupō, she connected up with other talented musicians singing in the acoustic rock duo ‘Rockin’ Mellow’ and in the jazz, soul, funk group ‘D- Trio’.
Sue released her first jazz album ‘Connections’, in 2007. Locally, she has sung at previous Arts Festivals, Picnic in the Park and at the Riverside Park Summer Series.
You can expect to hear some Gershwin, Garner, Billie Holiday and some well-known contemporary numbers. She will be accompanied by accomplished local pianist Alex Wiltshire and special guest saxophonist Peter Marshall.
