Funk it up - get your groove on and bring your dancing shoes!
Get excited, join us at Totara Street for a Funk and Soul Dance Party and shake the house down with two great bands.
Direct from Melbourne 6-piece Sex on Toast specialise in raw early 80s funk, hard-edged new jack swing, and soul.
10-piece funk and soul group Mr Speaker from Auckland feature members of Opensouls, Sal Valentine & the Babyshakes, Hipstamatics, and Avantdale Bowling Club - vocalists Tane Tari and Geneva Alexander-Marsters front a group that channels the energy and spirit of the seventies conjuring an authentic and infectious funk and soul sound that’s sure to bring a smile to your lips and a groove to your hips!
As well as paying tribute to musical giants like James Brown, George Clinton, and Sly Stone, Mister Speaker reinvent and funkify an eclectic mix of modern tracks from artists like Beyoncé, Dr Dre, and Gorillaz, bridging the gaps and blurring the lines between funk, soul, hip hop and rock.
DJ/Saxophonist Lewis McCallum warms up the crowd from 8pm.
Grab your tickets for the coolest party of the weekend! R18, Limited seating.
